I see this ALL OF THE TIME. It gets trotted out the second someone with privilege feels you are not being appropriately deferential to their opinions. It takes remarkably little to spur this accusation because it comes from people who feel remarkably entitled to get their way and see any impediment as an act of oppression and totalitarianism.

What really sucks for them is that sometimes they are right. And so what?

So what if people just want to talk to people who agree with them? So what if people want to talk about their beliefs with those they can gain emotional and intellectual support from? How is that the greatest crime ever visited upon someone? What these people are really saying is “So, I guess you don’t want to put up with my constant derailment, auditing of your beliefs, and demands that you justify your existence!”

No one has any obligation to make social justice easier for you. No one has any obligation to hold your hand. And especially no one has any obligation to suffer constant nitpicking and recriminations from people who love accusing others of acting in bad faith almost as much as they love acting in bad faith themselves.

This isn’t about us not being willing to consider we’re wrong. This isn’t about constructing an echo chamber for ourselves. Those kinds of insinuations and accusations always fundamentally mistake the society we live in. As a fat person, I am always going to be inundated with perspectives that stigmatize fatness. A POC will always be surrounded with white supremacist messages. Women will always encounter a culture of misogyny. Queer individuals will always be bombarded with het-centric media. Trans individuals will always be overwhelmed with opinions which center and elevate cis individuals. And so on and so on and so on. These critics like to imagine that they are fighting to open our minds, but the reality is that they are only added voices to an already cacophonous chorus.

You think we only want to talk to people who agree with us, but you ignore that we’ve already been made to talk to an endless cascade of people eager to tell us how wrong we are. So you know what? Maybe some people do just want to talk to people who agree with them. Maybe some people want to proactively seek out positive and constructive interactions. But don’t think that this is sticking our heads in the sand, our fingers in our ears. What some people don’t get is that we’re suffering no shortage of contrary opinions in our lives. Quite the contrary.

she’s a ravenclaw and she’s into historical revisionism and writes lengthy and intelligent articles for the zine. she’s also into mixing ‘alternative potions’, and plays as a chaser for the ravenclaw quidditch team.

she hates how history of magic is taught at Hogwarts though, its all books written by crusty old white pureblood dudes (“there isn’t a single non-human author in the syllabus, don’t tell me that doesn’t say something.”).

Antifemininity is misogynist. What you are saying when you engage in this type of rhetoric is that you think things traditionally associated with women are wrong. Which is misogynist. WHY is this sort of who/I overate/lost weight and now I’m better always the narrative for fat women? Seriously given the number of fat women who write a lot about things beyond the narrative of being a small/slightly fat fatty in a way that isn’t laden with guilt, misery and the LOSE WEIGHT koolaid, why is this ALWAYS the narrative?

Look, I don’t smoke anymore. I don’t do drugs anymore. I don’t date men who are terrible for me. I still like to drink, but I prefer to get up in the morning with a clear head and write my books, so I’m less likely to drink all night long. What I have left is food; that is my vice. for those not in the know, night witches were russian lady bombers who bombed the shit out of german lines in WW2. Thing is though, they had the oldest, noisiest, crappest planes in the entire world. The engines used to conk out halfway through their missions, so they had to climb out on the wings mid flight to restart the props. the planes were also so noisy that to stop germans from hearing them combing and starting up their anti aircraft guns, they’d climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs, restart their engines in midair, and get the fuck out of dodge.

their leader flew over 200 missions and was never captured.

I ordered a necklace from the wonderful Etsy shop, The Fable Tribe, and it arrived the other day. I was just so delighted with the care they took in packaging it. They even sent me some tea! My phone picture quality is not the best (it is the worst, actually), but the pendant reads “she held the shadow’s hand.” I absolutely love it.

The two ladies who run this shop are also the ones behind the very cool Project Unicorn.

(And no, I do not know them—though they seem *adorable*—and I’m recommending their shop only because I am so pleased with my experience.)
